Artemis Gurnsey
From the tender age of nine, Artemis Gurnsey has pursued an unwavering journey of artistic exploration, seamlessly weaving traditional, digital, and contemporary techniques into her ever-evolving craft. Her work is a testament to ceaseless dedication, a lifelong commitment to storytelling through art.
Currently based in Southern New Zealand, Artemis finds inspiration in the region’s tranquil landscapes, translating her visions into surreal dreamscapes through acrylic painting—her preferred medium. She often paints her dreams, crafting worlds where reality and imagination merge with absolute intention. Every colour, animal, and gemstone she chooses carries a deeper meaning—a hidden story waiting to be unraveled. Through her art, she has learned to paint perfect escapes, places where her inner child and adult self can coexist in harmony, experiencing life safely and softly. This is more than creativity—it is her way of speaking up, expressing what words cannot, and transforming emotions into landscapes that invite others to feel, reflect, and dream alongside her.
Artemis’s artistic career began as a freelance illustrator and greeting card designer at just nine years old, launching a path that has since expanded into illustration, graphic design, multimedia art, and creative direction. Her expertise spans a broad spectrum, from typography and branding to contemporary fine arts, with her work featured in digital art magazines, exhibitions, and global collaborations. She has contributed her talents to businesses, start-ups, and fellow creatives worldwide, crafting captivating websites, branding materials, and immersive visual experiences.
Beyond the canvas, Artemis is a passionate advocate for social change and community support. In 2019, she co-founded SHEALD, a Toronto-based non-profit and support group for survivors of sexual abuse. Facing bureaucratic challenges and a lack of funding for women’s support services, she expanded her efforts by launching SHEALD Online in Queenstown in 2021, ensuring accessible resources for those in need. Her commitment to advocacy extends to the #SWM (Survive With Me) campaign, which she spearheaded in 2014 to raise awareness about youth suicide, bullying, and cyberbullying, fostering conversations on mental health and digital safety.
Artemis has also contributed her creative expertise to organizations such as MYL & Associates and the Africaribbean Advocacy Centre, where she played a pivotal role as a graphic designer, brand strategist, and community manager, using visual storytelling to amplify impactful causes.
With a portfolio that bridges artistic disciplines and a passion that fuels every creation, Artemis Gurnsey continues to shape visual narratives that inspire, challenge, and connect.
